YORK (AP) – Authorities say two Connecticut state troopers escaped injury when their cruiser was smashed by a tractor-trailer at a toll plaza on the Maine Turnpike.

Maine State Trooper Mike Cook says the truck driver contends his brakes failed before the cruiser was struck from behind. The back of the cruiser was crushed and York firefighters had to extricate a passenger trapped in the back.

The truck driver was charged with falsifying his logbook after Wednesday’s crash. The names of those involved were not immediately available.
