FARMINGTON – A $2,500 grant will improve a play area for a program started last fall at the Franklin County Children’s Task Force.

The Wild and Wonderful Playgroup offers an opportunity for children from birth to age 5 and their parents to meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays at the task force for an activity, story and snack based on a different theme each week, said Janice Crandall on Thursday. A new session will begin on Jan. 22, she added.

The group was recently awarded the $2,500 grant from the Agnes Lindsay Trust, based in Manchester, N.H., she said.

The trust is committed to educating poor and deserving students from rural communities and the relief of suffering and child welfare, Crandall stated in a news release.

The trust is one of few funders that allow for capital improvements for children’s programming, said director Renee Blanchet. Most grants are program-specific, she added. The force has received other grants from the trust that allowed for computer upgrades, telephone systems and other projects, she said.

The playgroup, led by Betsy Judkins, met in the lower level of the task force building on Church Street last fall. The grant will pay for improvements to the space to make it more appealing – carpeting, painting and fixing a restroom on that level, Blanchet said.

While five children participated last fall, the group hopes to expand to 10 to 12 children for the January session, she said. Parents can call the Franklin County Children’s Task Force at 778-6960 to register.

The group is free and open to parents who live in Franklin County and Livermore Falls.
