LACONIA, N.H. – Anita Annette Murphy, 79, of Laconia, N.H., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
She was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Rumford, the daughter of Joseph and Yvonne Carrier and the beloved wife of Arthur F. Murphy.
She graduated in 1946 from Stephens High School in Rumford, and went on to graduate from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1949. She worked briefly at Massachusetts Memorial and later at the Veterans Hospital in Manchester, N.H.
She married in 1956, and resided in Manchester, N.H., until 1964. The family relocated to Cleveland Street in Holyoke, Mass., and remained there until 1992. During this time, she worked as the night supervisor of the coronary care units for Providence Hospital and Holyoke Hospital, retiring from nursing in 1988. In 1992, she and Arthur moved to Laconia, N.H.
She was an active golfer and a member of Waukewan Golf Course in Center Harbor, N.H., and the Northern Pines Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her passions included cooking and spending time with her family and her 9-month old puppy, Bijou. She enjoyed gardening, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, and was an avid downhill and cross country skier.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Arthur F. Murphy; their five children, Timothy J. Murphy and wife, Linda Lowry, of Hadley, Mass., Camille Kennedy and husband, Michael, of Belmont, N.H., Kathleen Murphy of Laconia, N.H., Daniel Murphy and wife, Lucia, of Anaheim, Calif., and Thomas Murphy and wife, Laura, of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandchildren, Ryan and Melissa Kennedy; a brother, Maurice Carrier and wife, Jean, of Spokane, Wash.; sisters, Ramona Dryer and husband, Leonard, of West Redding, Conn., and Lucille Mount and husband, Henry, of Mission, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
