LEWISTON – David Pierre Roy, 50, died suddenly at home on Tuesday, Jan. 8, after a long struggle with the disease of addiction.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1957, the third son of Eugene and Madeleine (Pare) Roy.
He attended Holy Cross School and served as an altar boy at Holy Cross Church for several years. He was a Sun Journal carrier for many years.
His first two years of high school were spent at LaSalette Seminary in Enfield, N.H. He graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School, after which he served three years in the U.S. Army, most of which were spent in Stuttgart, Germany. He studied and developed a liking for the art of beekeeping. Once an avid deep sea and urchin diver, he enjoyed the ocean in all its aspects, as well as whitewater rafting.
He was self-employed for most of his adult life owning and operating, first, D.P. Roy Fencing, and until his death, Acorn Fence Co.
He is survived by his parents; one son, Isaac D., to whom he was very devoted; a sister, Marie C. of Falmouth; seven brothers, Michael L. of Lewiston, Daniel P. and wife, Brigid, of Winthrop, Francis R. and wife, Darlene, of Poland, Dominic J. and wife, Juanita, of Oxford, Timothy J. of Lewiston and Gregory and his partner, Marsha Cook, of Wayne; one half brother, Steven of East Livermore; one half sister, Leah of East Livermore; his former wife, Mary Roy, and her three sons, Zachary, Jason and Kevin Goulet; several nephews and nieces; and a grandniece.
He was predeceased by his grandparents; and two nephews, Adam D. Roy and Matthew Fitch.
