BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic will sponsor its four-part diabetes education program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, 24, 28 and 31 in the hospital clinic wing.
The series requires physician referral, and early registration is suggested as class size is limited to assure personal attention. Topics will include “What is Diabetes Mellitus,” “Complications and Diabetes,” “Sick Day Management,” “Diabetes and Eye Care,” “Medications and Managing Your Diabetes,” “Exercise and Diabetes,” “Proper Foot Care and Diabetes” and “Meal Plans and Diabetes.”
Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee.
In addition to Elaine Drew, RN/CDE, a registered nurse who is also a certified diabetes nurse educator, lecturers will include Dr. Lynn McAfee, podiatrist, Oxford Hills Foot and Ankle Center; Dr. Thomas Gordon, optometrist, Bridgton and South Casco; and Bridgton Hospital professionals Denyell Gerchman, pharmacist, Linda Russell, MA, RD/LD, dietitian, and Ronald Balistreri, PT, physical therapist.
The classes are designed to give general information about diabetes and help the patient manage diabetes. The course also introduces patients to a diabetes support system.
A dietary consultation is required and should be done before the classes begin. Contact Linda Russell, RD/LD, at 647-6062 to schedule an appointment.
Participants are encouraged to bring a relative or a friend with them. For more information about the program or to register, call Drew at 647-6064.
Bridgton Hospital has received the American Diabetes Association education recognition certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program.
