PORTLAND (AP) – A Cumberland County grand jury has indicted two men in the alcohol-related death of a University of Maine soccer player.
Nineteen-year-old Adam Baxter, of Skegness, England, died early Nov. 24th in a house in Portland during a school break. Baxter, who had been drinking with friends, died of choking after apparently passing out and breathing in vomit.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Anthony Lord, a UMaine student, is charged with furnishing liquor to a minor, resulting in death.
He also faces three misdemeanor counts of furnishing liquor to minors. Nineteen-year-old Sean Michael Meehan, a teammate of Baxter’s, faces three misdemeanor counts of furnishing a place to consume liquor.
Prosecutors say Lord bought liquor and Meehan hosted the party at his parents’ house.
