LEWISTON – Charles “Charlie” W. Bartlett, 91, a lifelong resident of Lewiston died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 8, at his home.
He was born July 17, 1916, in Lewiston, the son of Willis E. and Arldella (Dearborn) Bartlett.
A graduate of Lewiston High School, he received his B.A. from Bates College in 1938. He later went on to earn his master’s degree in dducation from Boston University in 1954. He was a secondary education teacher and guidance counselor in Maine and Massachusetts.
A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he was stationed in England as a link training instructor. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cribbage and chess.
After his retirement in 1972, he took up duplicate bridge and played in the Lewiston area and at the Multi- Purpose Center, where he developed many close friendships.
He is survived by cousins, Anthony T. Albert Jr. and his wife, Doris, of Lewiston, and Kenneth Foisy of Sabattus; and close friends, Clifton Dow of Sabattus, Helen and Arthur Dube, Guy and Connie Boucher, Irene Sirois, Thomas Reynolds and Allie Boyer, all of Lewiston, and Gladwin and Norma Smith of Mount Vernon, N.H.
