PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Two Providence teens stand accused of trying to steel a baby python.

Amanda King, 18, and Joshua Olsen, 18, of Providence, were charged with converting an item to their own use without paying.

Adam Heroux, co-owner of the Critter Hut, said King, a former employee visited the shop with Olsen.

Heroux said a worker was showing the two a cage with three snakes and got called away and King offered to close the cage. Heroux said King helped slip the baby python into Olsen’s pocket.

The snake is a baby ball python, about a foot long and less than an inch thick.

A plea of not guilty was entered for King. Olsen was ordered held without bail for violating probation on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
