NORWAY – Elsie Emily Gammon, 71, of Buckfield, died Saturday, Jan. 12, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Lewiston on March 28, 1936, the daughter of John E. and Ruth E. Ellingwood Lowell. She graduated from Buckfield High School and had been a homemaker all of her life.
She enjoyed knitting and quilting. Her favorite pastime was playing cards with her friends, the “penny players.” She loved football and baseball. She was always the first person to help anyone in need. She will be sadly missed by all she touched.
She married Oscar Gammon on May 25, 1956.
She is survived by her husband of Buckfield; two daughters, Eileen Hotham and her husband, Kendall Jr., of Mechanic Falls and Bethany Gammon of Buckfield; a grandson, Christopher Hotham; two brothers, Frank Lowell and his wife, Beatrice, of Newry and Howard Lowell and his wife, Amanda Dempsey, of Harpswell; a sister, Charlotte Warren and her husband, Walter, of Buckfield; sisters-in-law, Edith Lowell, Jeannette O’Neil, Martha Dunn and her companion, Bill Harmon, Barbara and Douglas McDonald, Dorothy and James Brown, Vasselius Gammon and Norma Carter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Heikkinen and Julia Cooper; a brother, Ralph Lowell; and brothers-in-law, James, Theodore and Francis Gammon.
