AUBURN – Lawrence F. “Fred” McKenna, 80, of Franklin Street, Rumford, died Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Hospice House.
He was born in Rumford, on Dec. 15, 1927, the son of Lawrence and Agatha Ruth (Ellsworth) McKenna. He was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1946. After serving in the Army, he moved to Connecticut, where he worked in food services as a custodian in the Stratford School system.
He enjoyed square dancing, cribbage and travel. He was a member of the Shelton and Derby Senior Centers in Connecticut, and the Rumford and Wilton Senior centers in Maine. He was a member of the Robert Shand Post 24 American Legion in Rumford and was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford.
He was married in Stratford, Conn., on Feb. 14, 1986, to the late Dorothy Lewis.
He is survived by his stepson, Craig Lewis and his wife, Nancy, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Corey and Hannah Lewis, all of Stratford, Conn.; nephews, Kevin Cote and his wife, Judy, of Pennsylvania, Wayne Cote and his wife, Judy Frost, Robert and his wife, Chrissie, Lawrence Decker, all of Maine, and Donald Gallant and his wife, Kim, of Florida; several great-nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Eddie McKenna; several cousins; and other relatives in Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
He was predeceased by his father; mother; wife; his brother, John McKenna; his sisters, Margaret McKenna, Rita McKenna Gallant and Mary McKenna Decker; and several close relatives in P.E.I.
