LEWISTON – Anyone who wants to stop smoking can still sign up for Quit and Win 2008. Healthy Androscoggin is coordinating the tobacco cessation support program free to anyone interested in quitting tobacco.

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Central Maine Medical Center, the American Lung Association of Maine and the American Cancer Society are sponsoring the program.

Tobacco users interested in quitting must pick a quit date on or before Monday, Jan. 21, and stay quit until Monday, Feb. 25.

Those who stay quit for the five weeks will be entered into a drawing to win prizes, including $500 cash. The prizes will be given away at the celebration from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Auburn Public Library. Participants must be present to win.

Healthy Androscoggin provides support during the five-week program by being available to answer questions and sending out weekly quit tips. New this year, Healthy Androscoggin is encouraging participants to call the Maine Tobacco Helpline (1-800-207-1230) for extra support.

Those who call the helpline and receive coaching from the staff, will be entered into a separate drawing for $200 to take place at the celebration.
