WILTON – Cianbro is taking applications for another welder training session to be held at the Nichols Development Center.

The class for up to 24 students begins Feb. 4, said Todd Gilley of Cianbro on Wednesday.

The class provides an opportunity to become a trained pipe fitting welder, said Eileen Miazga from SAD 9 Adult Education, who coordinates the program for Cianbro and Nichols Development. Students receiving training are paid $10 an hour through the Maine Department of Labor for the 480-hour course.

Fourteen students will finish a session on Jan. 21, she said. The session takes 12 weeks to complete at 40 hours-per-week. Students expect to work in either Brewer or South Portland, she said.

Cianbro will hold interviews to fill the slots for the new session, Gilley said. Once accepted, student are hired as employees of Cianbro and are eligible for benefits in addition to the hourly wage.

“There will be 60 welders trained by the time we’re done,” Miazga said. “They’ll be employed by Cianbro but they have learned a life skill that will have an effect on the economy of Franklin County.”

Those interested may visit www.cianbro.com to apply for the welder trainee session, Gilley said. They may also call the Wilton Career Center at 645-5800.
