DIXFIELD – SAD 21 board members on Tuesday delayed action on setting the salary and contract extension for Superintendent Tom Ward until their Jan. 28 meeting.

At that time, the board will meet a half-hour early to evaluate Ward’s work and set salary and contract details. Later, during the regular meeting, the board will begin work on development of the 2008-2009 school budget, Ward said Wednesday.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the board became the first of the three working toward state-mandated consolidation to approve paying mileage for town officials, community members and school board representatives who sit on the Reorganizational Planning Committee.

Ward said 12 people from district towns Canton, Carthage, Dixfield and Peru will be eligible for reimbursement for travel costs to meeting sites. SAD 21 is working with SAD 43 (Rumford) and SAD 39 (Buckfield). Meetings rotate between the districts.

The mileage rate paid by SAD 21 is 35 cents.

Ward said the district had set aside money to help cover costs associated with the consolidation process. That money will be used for mileage reimbursement.
