FARMINGTON – A Farmington man was arrested on misdemeanor charges of cultivating and trafficking marijuana Thursday after police searched his Morrison Hill Road home.

A monthlong investigation resulted in the arrest of Eric Tartt, 45, 248 Morrison Hill Road on charges of growing and selling marijuana, and making marijuana butter, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said.

Jennifer Hancock, 47, who also lives at the residence, was issued a summons on a charge of unlawful furnishing marijuana. The charge stemmed from having more than 1.25 ounces of the illegal weed in her bedroom.

Using a search warrant, police found two grow rooms in the basement, one containing three mature and budded plants growing under fluorescent and high-pressure sodium lights. In another room, 20 smaller potted plants were found. The plants were growing under fluorescent lights and a metal halide light. Police also gathered electric timers that controlled lighting, a moisture meter and pH meter used in the cultivation room, he said.

Dried processed marijuana was found on the main floor of the house, MDEA special agent supervisor Gerry Baril said. It was stuffed inside several brown plastic vitamin bottles that police believe were ready for distribution. A scale used to weigh the dry material and a dehydrator used to accelerate the drying of buds was also taken as evidence.

In total, approximately 6 ounces of marijuana were found with an estimated street value of $1,050, Baril said.

The 23 marijuana plants found in the grow rooms, although only three were budded, had the potential to yield of a half pound of useable marijuana per plant, with an average street value of $2,000 per pound. The total estimated value would have been $23,000, he said.

A container of “marijuana butter” was found in the refrigerator. The butter weight, at approximately 140 grams, or less than a third of a pound, was evidence of the manufacture of marijuana, he said.

Tartt was released later Thursday on $5,000 unsecured bail for a court appearance on March 20.

Three law enforcement agencies in Franklin County participated in the month-long investigation. Maine Drug Enforcement agents, Farmington police officers, deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and a state trooper and canine searched the home.
