VIENNA – Gilbert Brown, 90, passed away on Jan. 15, after a brief illness.

He was born in Sewickley, Pa., Aug. 3, 1917, the only child of William and Lena (Funk) Brown. He attended schools in Warren and North Plainfield, N.J., graduating in 1934.

He was in the Army from early 1941 to 1945 stationed in the Pacific area. When he returned from the war, he married Lillian Possien on April 20, 1946. Together they built their home in Warren Township., N.J.

There he was the chairman of the planning board for several years and was also a founding member of the Mt. Bethel Fire Department. His favorite pastimes included raising bees and mowing grass.

He worked for N.J. Bell for more than 30 years, retiring in 1976. Gil and Lil summered in Vienna for many years and after retiring moved there full time. She passed away in 1984.

In 1985, he married Lois Cyrus. They shared 22 happy years.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Debbie Byrnes and husband, Peter; stepchildren, Tom Cyrus and wife, Jeanne, Eloise Chilcote and husband, Paul and Dan Cyrus and wife, Cynthia; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian; and son, Matthew.
