AUGUSTA – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn delegation to the state legislature presented Lewiston resident David Gervais with a special legislative sentiment on Jan. 15.

He is known locally as “Top Dollar Dave” because of his volunteer work, most notably for the American Diabetes Association. Gervais has raised more than $80,000 for the association over the past eight years, mostly through a letter-writing campaign.

“Thank you, David, for your selfless dedication and your tireless efforts for so many valuable causes,” said Rep. Elaine Makas, D-Lewiston, lead sponsor of the sentiment. “Most of all, thank you for inspiring the rest of us to also be more kind and giving of ourselves.”

Gervais has volunteered for other organizations and causes, such as the Great TV Auction on MPBN, and works at the Bates College coffee shop and snack bar. Gervais is active in the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Church in Lewiston, where he is a fourth-degree knight and a member of the honor guard.

“No one I know has more enthusiasm for the work he does to benefit others,” said Rep. Dick Wagner, D-Lewiston. “It is a privilege to be a co-sponsor of this sentiment in honor of Lewiston’s one and only David Gervais.”

Gervais was joined by members of his family and representatives from the Portland and Boston offices of the American Diabetes Association to witness his receipt of the special sentiment.
