SOUTH PARIS – Lorna W. Plante, 68, of South Paris passed away on Jan. 16, after several months battling a terminal illness.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1939, to Lillian (Everett) and Harold St. Jernquist, in Portland. She received her education at schools in Kittery and Oxford, and graduated a certified licensed practical nurse after her return to school after raising her five children.

She was employed as a private-duty nurse for several years and also worked at a number of healthcare facilities in New Hampshire and Maine, including the Maine Veterans’ Home and Market Square Health Care Center, both in South Paris, and Marshwood Center in Lewiston.

After the death of her husband Charles Malcolm Walo, whom she married in 1956, she married Richard J. (Maxie) Plante in 1979. Together, she and Maxie enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home visiting friends and relatives. She also enjoyed reading, but her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jackie Norton of New Hampshire, Barbara Vaughn of Virginia, and Diana Walo of Texas; her two sons, Charles Jeffrey (C.J.) and Robert, both of Oxford; a sister, Anita Miles of Oxford; a stepsister, Janice Rigsby of Tennessee; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Penny and Heidi; her friend and companion, Robert Sawtelle; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her two husbands; a sister, Cheryl; baby brother, Harold Jr.; also recently deceased was her stepson, Tony Plante in Florida.
