Rumford – Thomas P. “Tanky” Andrews, 77, of Cumberland St. died Monday, Jan. 15, at his residence after a long illness.

He was born in Portland, on May 6, 1930, a son of Anthony J. and Catherine (McGrath) Andrews. He graduated from Cheverus High School and played on their basketball team; and attended St. Francis College in Canada.

He was a language teacher for 32 years; many of those years were in the Rumford school system.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Rumford. He loved playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles.

He is survived by a brother, Robert L. Andrews of Camdy, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Bernedine Campbell.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Mary Andrews; and brothers, Anthony J. Andrews Jr., Francis Andrews and Peter Stampon.
