WASHINGTON – That sudden surge by the New York Knicks? Over, emphatically.

Antawn Jamison scored 32 points and Caron Butler added 22 while stretching his made free-throw streak to an NBA season-high 54 Friday night, leading the Washington Wizards to a 111-98 victory over New York, which had won its previous three games.

The Knicks’ run included a victory at home over Washington on Tuesday, but they failed to record what would have been the team’s first four-game winning streak since January 2006.

Washington has won four of its past five games to improve to 21-17, despite playing without injured All-Star Gilbert Arenas since November.

New York, meanwhile, dropped to 12-27 after allowing the Wizards to record their highest first-half point total of the season, 61, and shoot 57 percent for the game.

The 111 points were Washington’s most since Nov. 24 against Memphis.

Jamison shot 14-for-20, including a 6-for-7 start, while Butler was 9-for-20 on field goals and 4-for-4 at the foul line. Rookie Nick Young was perfect in the second quarter, shooting 5-for-5 on field goals and 1-for-1 at the line.

Quentin Richardson led New York with a season-high 21 points, but he only scored two in the second half. Jamal Crawford, who scored 29 Tuesday, was limited to 19.

Jamison and rookie Oleksiy Pecherov each scored six points in a 15-3 run that put the Wizards ahead 90-74 with a little more than 2 minutes left in the third quarter.

The Knicks might have been expected to pack it in at that point, but they did not, scoring 12 straight to get within 92-88 early in the fourth period. And then, just like that, Washington put together another spurt capped by Butler’s two free throws that made it 103-90 with 61/2 minutes to go.

Washington then stretched its lead to as many as 17 and wasn’t really challenged again.

Point guard Antonio Daniels returned to the Wizards’ starting lineup after missing the game in New York with a knee injury. He played 30 minutes and finished with eight points and seven assists.

Richardson equaled his previous season high of 19 points with a 3-pointer that put New York ahead 50-47 with just under 4 minutes left in the first half.

But Washington took a 61-57 lead into halftime, thanks to Jamison’s 16 points, Butler’s 13 and Young’s output.

My thoughts are just trying to win this basketball game tonight.” … Wizards C Etan Thomas said he should be able to practice with his teammates soon, the next step in getting back on the court after having open heart surgery in October. “I definitely plan on returning this year,” Thomas said on “The John Thompson Show” on WTEM. “I’m able to do more and more. I’m looking forward to getting cleared to be able to practice here soon.” … Knicks reserve C Jerome James (foot surgery) was active for the first game this season. He entered with 2:46 left in the fourth quarter and had four points and a rebound.
