NEW VINEYARD – Stephen M. McKenney, 55, of New Portland, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 16, in New Vineyard as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born Sept. 9, 1952, in Portland, the son of Dana B. and Mattie L. (Brooks) McKenney. As a child, Stephen was raised by his grandmother, Marie McKenney. He attended the schools of Old Orchard Beach.
Stephen worked for many years at Sugarloaf USA, at Trantens Grocery Store in Kingfield, and most recently as a volunteer driver for Community Concepts. He also volunteered for the Eustis-Stratton Fire Department when he lived in Stratton.
He was a cat lover who enjoyed square dancing, building model cars, and was known for his calm, pleasant manner.
Stephen is survived by two sisters, Jeannette Mills, and Charlotte Bourgault and her husband, Robert, all of Biddeford; his brother, Warren McKenney and his wife, Rosalie, of Connecticut; four nieces, Tammy, Melissa, Tina and Jenny Rebecca; and four nephews, Brian, Shawn, Michael and Patrick.
He was predeceased by his parents.
