STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) – A state lawmaker will again push for legislation in the General Assembly that would force motorists to remove ice and snow from their vehicles before driving.
Complaints from motorists about flying ice and snow from cars and trucks traveling at top speeds on highways have led to nine attempts since 1991 to pass a law.
Norwalk Representative Lawrence Cafero says he’ll introduce legislation.
Governor Rell said last month that state law allows police to pull over motorists for failing to secure a load.
Cafero says legislation should target snow and ice. He says it’s a real stretch applying the law requiring motorists to secure a load on their vehicles.
Michael Riley, president of the Motor Transportation Association of Connecticut, said truckers would not be able to comply. He says tractor-trailer roofs are not strong enough to support people shoveling snow.
