PORTLAND (AP) – With events scheduled around the state, Maine joins the nation this holiday weekend in celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
Susan Rice, senior national security advisor to the Barack Obama campaign, will be the keynote speaker at the 27th annual Martin Luther King Day breakfast celebration put on in Portland by the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The breakfast will be followed by a march and wreath-laying dedication at Monument Square.
Other events in remembrance of the slain civil rights leader are being held in churches and schools across Maine.
