PERU – Selectmen agreed Monday night to take action on a complaint about the icy condition of roads, especially Green Woods Road.
Norman Miele of Burbank Road, which is off Green Woods Road, said it could be serious if the many log trucks using Green Woods Road met a school bus around Worthley Pond. He said as leaders of the town it was the board’s responsibility to ride over the roads to check their condition and take action to improve the situation.
“Don’t save dollars and lose a life,” he said.
The board serves as the road commissioner.
Selectman Jim Pulsifer said he also has concerns about the roads as more sand and salt is needed.
Selectman Corey Jacques said that after the last storm, 6 or so inches of slush was left on the roads and not scraped off as it should have been.
Chairman Bill Scott said the board would take action.
Pulsifer suggested that road foreman Rick Vaughn be invited to the next meeting and then have the whole work crew in to discuss what can be done.
In other business, the board appointed J. R. Worthington and Arthur Campbell to the Planning Board. Edward J. Roach is the new chairman, and the meetings have been changed to the first and second Tuesday of each month.
Jessica Hines was appointed to the school board to finish the term of Lynda Hebert.
The board signed a consent agreement involving Paul Bickford over a long-standing shoreland zoning violation issue on Worthley Pond. The agreement still must be reviewed and signed by Bickford.
Selectmen’s secretary Kathy Hussey reported that payments to the Northern Oxford Regional Solid Waste Board would not increase due the amount of recycling that was being done. She said there couldn’t be a reduction due to the fact that the town has to replace some equipment.
