LEWISTON – The Lots to Gardens’ Kids’ Cooking Club is is returning from a break and the kick-off class will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Lewiston Public Library Children’s Department.
The kids will be kneading and topping pizzas from scratch.
In the club children ages 8 to 14 join together to cook healthy snacks, play nutrition-related games and make seasonal crafts. The club will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. every Monday in the Lewiston Public Library Children’s Department.
There is limited space each week, so participants will be chosen from the sign-up sheet at the desk of the Children’s Department. Call or visit the library to sign up. For more information, call David Moorhead or Jake Paris at the library at 784-0135, ext. 4. The club is free.
Lots to Gardens is growing food to change the community. The organization uses sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community.
Since 1999, it has built 15 gardens and green spaces in four diverse neighborhoods in Lewiston. It is sponsored by Sisters of Charity Health System.
Community food projects include apartment-side and community gardens with more than 60 families and senior citizens; neighborhood veggie stands that provide affordable organic produce; weekly community meals and garden events; cooking and nutrition classes; activities at the Lewiston Farmers’ Market; and a youth empowerment program.
