MECHANIC FALLS – Mechanic Falls Democrats will hold a presidential caucus at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Town Hall on Lewiston Street.
The town clerk will be available from 12:30 to 1 p.m. to register new voters and to change unenrolled voters to Democrats. Republicans or Green Independents must change their registration to Democrat by Jan. 26 to participate in a Democratic caucus.
Democrats unable to attend can get absentee ballots by calling Maine Democratic Headquarters in Augusta at 207-622-6233. Applicants should not wait until the last minute, as the party needs to get the ballots into the hands of the caucus convener. The town clerk does not have absentee ballots.
The agenda for the caucus includes electing town officers and representatives to the Androscoggin County Committee, meeting local candidates and viewing a special video by U.S. Rep. Tom Allen, D-Maine, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
The last item on the agenda, which will begin at 1:30 p.m., is the presidential preference vote during which Democrats will declare their choice by physically separating into different parts of the room with their fellow supporters for a particular candidate. At this time, a determination will be made as to how many delegates to the state convention each candidate is entitled. Video presentations from the presidential candidates will be shown prior to the vote.
Individuals who wish to support local clean election candidates by giving $5 to the clean election fund should bring their checkbooks.
