RUMFORD – Black Mountain of Maine will offer free skiing today from 4 to 9 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the NewPage Rumford Mill, Irving Forest Products of Dixfield, Wal-Mart of Mexico and 92Moose-FM.

Along with free lift tickets for skiing or snowboarding, free half-hour beginner lessons are available, and the Edge tubing park will be open with special $10 per person pricing.

Limited ski and snowboard rentals will be available, while supplies last, for $15. Anyone under 18 wishing to rent equipment or go tubing must have rental forms or tubing waivers signed by a responsible adult. The kitchen will be open until 8:30 p.m., and the Last Run Lounge will be open until 10 p.m.

Black Mountain of Maine and its sister facility, Big Rock ski area in Mars Hill, are holding these events as one way to help re-establish skiing as a lifestyle in Maine. Black Mountain is located at 39 Glover Road in Rumford.
