FARMINGTON – Wal-Mart was evacuated late Thursday night after a telephoned bomb threat was received at the store on Route 2.

Police responded at 11:25 p.m. after a male caller phoned the store and said a bomb was in the store, Farmington Police Detective Marc Bowering said Friday.

State Trooper Scott Dalton and his bomb-sniffing dog searched the building but found nothing, he said. Police also did a physical search in different areas and found nothing.

Farmington Fire Department, along with Farmington Police Department officers, Trooper Dalton and a University of Maine at Farmington officer helped seal entrances, Bowering said.

The store is open 6 a.m. to midnight daily.

No one at the Farmington store was willing to talk about the incident Friday and referred calls to the company’s media relations office in Arkansas. A representative there said there was a call received at the store which was perceived as a threat.

While stating that the safety and security of their customers and associates is a top priority, she would not comment on how many customers and associates were evacuated or for how long. The store was open for business Friday.
