WINTHROP – Lawrence L. Kaherl, 80, of Route 133, died Friday, Jan. 25, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born in Winthrop on Sept. 2, 1927, the son of Irvin and Jessie (Hammond) Kaherl.
He attended Winthrop schools and had worked at several area mills including Bonafide, Inmont and Carlton Woolen Mill. He enjoyed living life to the fullest and making music. He played the mandolin, guitar, harmonica and sang. He loved to entertain people and make them laugh.
He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang band and enjoyed his Tuesday night ‘jam’ sessions. At the age of 69, he could be seen riding his Honda motorcycle and just “rammin’ aroun.” Most of all, he loved being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and was living less than a mile from the house he was born in.
He is survived by two sons, Carlton Kaherl and his wife, Jane, of New Sharon and Bradley Kaherl and his wife, Anne, of Winthrop; a daughter, Carleen Schmidt and her husband, Erlon, of Fayette; 10 grandchildren, Shane, Jason, Brady, Eric, Johanna, Larry, Jamie, Randy, Corey and Cobey; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and companion, Patricia Wing.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence in 1996; and several brothers and sisters.
