MEDFORD, Mass. – Scott Place’s 3-pointer ignited a 15-4 run that helped Bates overcome a 15-point deficit and work overtime for a 72-68 men’s basketball victory over Tufts. A three-point play by Chris Wilson and a 3-pointer by Brian Wholey allowed Bates (10-5) to reach overtime. Wholey added six points in overtime, leading to his game-high 28 points, Wilson added 15 and Jimmy O’Keefe had 10.
Connecticut 77, Colby 66
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Christian Mosely drained 24 points, including a 10-for-10 effort from the charity stripe, as the Connecticut College Camels (14-3) trodded off with a 77-66 decision over Colby in NESCAC men’s basketball action Saturday.
Mark Gaudet collected 19 points for the Mules (10-8).
USM 77, Keene St. 74
GORHAM – Jamal Caterina, Greg Whitaker and Troy Jellison scored 17 points apiece to lead Southern Maine to a 77-74 victory over Keene State.
Drew Coppenrath sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 3 seconds to play.
Bowdoin 66, Wesleyan 46
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Bowdoin used a 20-4 run in the second half to break open the game in a 66-46 triumph over Wesleyan.
Jordan Fliegel scored a game-high 25 points for Bowdoin (15-3). No Wesleyan player scored in double figures.
Becker 86, UMF 76
FARMINGTON – Travis Suber powered the Hawks with 26 points as Becker handily took an 86-76 decision from the University of Maine at Farmington in NAC men’s basketball action Saturday.
The Hawks (8-9) outshot Farmington from the field, 51 percent to 42.6 percent, including nine field goals from long distance.
Sean Fry of Jay led the Beavers (8-10) with 17 points, while Matt St. John of Wayne chipped in with 10 points.
Women’s basketball
Wesleyan 62, Bowdoin 49
BRUNSWICK – Wesleyan beat Bowdoin for the first time in 16 years with a 62-49 victory.
The loss was just Bowdoin’s third at home since 2001.
Kill Anelauskas led the Polar Bears with 11 points.
Alexa Kaubris was one of three players with 10 points.
UMF 55, Becker 33
FARMINGTON – Caitlyn Laflin scored 19 points and hauled down nine rebounds to lead Maine-Farmington to a 55-33 victory over Becker.
The Beavers’ defense held Becker to 28 percent shooting and enjoyed a 53-35 advantage in rebounds. Erin Porter added nine points.
Tufts 61, Bates 46
LEWISTON – Nationally-ranked Tufts shut down the Bates attack in a 61-46 victory.
The Bobcats (10-6) were held to 25 percent shooting and were outrebounded, 51-34.
Meg Coffin led Bates with 15 points. Colleen Hart paced Tufts (16-1) with 17 points.
Colby 66, Connecticut 63
WATERVILLE – Allison Cappelloni scored the go-ahead basket with 32.7 seconds remaining to post a game-high 20 points as Colby took a 66-63 decision from Connecticut College in women’s basketball ction Saturday.
Katie McCabe had a second straight double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Mules (4-11).
Katy Serafin and Lindsay Michel recorded 18 points apiece for the Camels (10-7).
USM 58, Keene St. 53
GORHAM – Becky Dixon came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points to lift Southern Maine to a 58-53 victory over Keene State.
USM (16-1) won its eighth consecutive game. Josalee Danieli chipped in with 10 points.
Hockey
BC 4, Maine 2
ORONO – Nathan Gerbe scored the game-winner late in the second period and Dan Bertram tallied three assists to lead Boston College to a 4-2 victory over Maine.
Andrew Sweetland scored on the power play to tie the game at 2-2 at 7:15 of the second period for the Black Bears. Defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin also scored for Maine.
Goalie Ben Bishop registered 27 saves in the losing effort.
