WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Joline Richmond Settle, 77, widow of the late Curtis William Settle, Sr. died Friday, Jan. 25, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1930, she was the elder daughter of the late Fredrick S. and Hazel Wells Richmond of Phillips She was educated in the Phillips schools, received a BS degree from the University of Maine-Farmington, and her MA and Ed.S. degrees from Appalachian State University. She was a classroom teacher in Newport for three years and was a teacher and assistant principal at Hasty Elementary School for 10 years. At Ledford Middle School she taught Gifted and Talented Language Arts and Social Studies and was the curriculum coordinator until her retirement in 1990. She was an active member of various professional organizations during her career and served on several committees.
She was a charter member and first worthy advisor of Phillips Assembly 8, Rainbow for Girls, and was a charter member and two-term president of Beta Psi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority for Women Educators.
She is survived by two daughters and a son, Vanessa Elliott, Veronica Russell and husband Wade, and Curtis Settle Jr. (Bill) and wife Debbie; five grandchildren, Bryan Elliott and wife Amy, Jennifer Elliott Isenhour, Erica Russell, Andrea Russell and Kendra Russell Wheeler and husband Josh; four great-grandchildren, Bryce Elliott, Felicia Elliott, Hunter Isenhour and Gabriel Wheeler; two nieces, Ione Golden Townsend and husband, C.L., of Tampa, Fla., and Janice Tiberio of Phoenix, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Jill Turner.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Leatrice Richmond Gardiner; and her nephew, Frederick James Golden.
