New PD printers
The scoop: Police Chief Tom Fales got the go-ahead from selectmen to lease a new printer system from Portland Computer Copy, which reportedly will save the town more than $2,000 annually in material costs. The department will lease the equipment for five years at a total cost of $13,989.60.
Winter needs
The scoop: Public Works director John Hyde found a used plow to fit the town’s year-old Ford F-550 for $1,000. Selectmen approved the purchase. Hyde also told the board that the truck’s slipping transmission will be repaired within two weeks.
Up next: Selectmen approved $600 for a pallet of calcium chloride ice melter, which usually is enough to last the town for two winters. However, with enough winter sand remaining for an estimated four more storms, the board decided to wait a bit longer before refilling the sand shed.
Trade trailer?
Issue: Fire Chief Robert Scott is looking for a snowblower to clean up the fire station after storms. Selectmen suggested Scott peruse federal surplus lists in hopes of finding a deal and, in the meanwhile, Transfer Station chief Jerry Sabins offered to let firefighters use his snow blower.
Up next: Hyde, the public works chief, also offered to buy the Fire Department a snow blower in return for a storage box trailer that the firefighters don’t need and wanted to bid out for sale. The issue will be continued during the board’s next meeting in February.
New firetruck
The scoop: Volunteers are needed for a committee to shepherd the purchase of a new firetruck. The committee will include Town Manager Greg Gill and Selectman Gino Camardese. Scott, the fire chief, also would like a few residents to serve on the committee.
Committee openings
The scoop: Anthony D’Andrea was named as the 11th member of the Comprehensive Plan Update committee; however, four more are needed.
