MONROE, Wash. – Roland William Bolduc passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, in Monroe, Wash.
He was born April 2, 1921, in Lewiston. He left home in 1942 to join the U.S. Navy and served on the Fletcher Class Destroyer USS Taylor during World War II. The Taylor was alongside the Battleship USS Missouri when Emperor Hirohito of Japan signed his country’s surrender in Tokyo Bay at the end of the war. After the war, he joined the Army Air Corps., which became the U.S. Air Force in 1947.
He retired from the Air Force as a chief master sergeant in 1973 at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H., having served his country for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Annabelle; son, Marc Johnston; daughter, Annabelle Cocchiaro; grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnston, Annie Johnston, Adam Cocchiaro and Jordan Cocchiaro; great-granddaughter, Brooke Johnston; and several nieces and nephews in the Lewiston area.
He was predeceased by his son, Doran Bolduc; his parents, Hilaire Bolduc and Marie Montigny Bolduc; two brothers; and a sister.
