LEBANON, N.H. – Normand J. Belanger, 85, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
He was born in Berlin on Dec. 4, 1922, a son of the late Joseph and Malvina (Bourque) Belanger. He attended local schools, and was a lifetime resident of the area. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in Northern France and Central Europe. He received numerous decorations and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned home to Berlin and was married to Jeannette A. Lessard. Together, they raised a son and two daughters and were longtime residents of Kent Street having moved there in 1953.
He was employed in the Kraft Mill for the Brown Co. and Gulf and Western retiring as chief operator of the No. 11 boiler in 1979. During his retirement, he and his wife did some traveling, visiting such places as Hawaii; but were also happy to be home. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and his garden and had also been involved with Local 75 and was a longtime member of the VFW Post 2520. His greatest love was for his family, and he will be sadly missed by them all.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 61 years, Jeannette A. Belanger of Berlin, N.H.; his daughters, Denise Plummer and her husband, Peter, of West Milan, N.H., and Sylvia Hendricks and her husband, Jeffrey, of Cranberry, Pa.; his daughter-in-law, Gina Belanger of Gorham; his brother, Maurice Belanger and his wife, Cecile, of Nashua, N.H.; his sisters, Rita Rousseau, Pauline Duguay and Jacqueline LaFrance and her husband, Lucien, all of Berlin, N.H.; he will be remembered by his grandson and six granddaughters, his many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, CSM Paul N. Belanger on Dec. 9, 2007; and his brother, Emile Belanger.
