PORTLAND – William W. Allen, 73, of Maple Street, Rumford, died Monday, Jan. 28, at the Seaside Nursing Home.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., Sept. 2, 1934, a son of Clarence and Anna May (Summers) Allen. A high school graduate, he attended schools in Ohio.

He made a career with the U.S. Air Force with more than 20 years service, until retirement as a master sergeant in 1974, and then was a small business owner for many years.

He was a very active member in the DAV, American Legion and was a life member of the VFW in Saco and Rumford. He was an active member of AA in Portland for more than 27 years. He loved traveling with his wife, Charlene and spending time with his family. He also loved gardening and cooking.

He was married in Old Orchard Beach on Oct. 2, 1993, to the former Charlotte “Charlene” Bernard, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include daughters, Ms. Danna Allen of Portland, Ms. Audrey Allen of New Hampshire and Ms. Elizabeth Allen of Portland; step-daughters Shelley Thomas and husband, Jim, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Victoria Clark and husband, Ralph, of Rumford; step-sons Timothy Turbide and wife, Willobelle, of Manning, S.C., Maurice Turbide and wife, Samantha, of Auburn and Shawn Turbide and wife, Mary, of Biddeford; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
