WEST BETHEL – Doris M. Brown, 98, of West Bethel, died at her residence Wednesday, Jan. 30, with her family at her side.
She was born in Andover on June 27, 1909, the daughter of Herbert and Daisy (Brooks) Morton and graduated from Stephens High School (now Mountain Valley High School) in the Class of 1926.
She married Richard J. Brown on June 27, 1929; he died Aug. 7, 1994 after being married 65 years. She had worked as secretary to Henry H. Hastings Sr. 1926 to 1929, Dr. Sherman Greenleaf 1933 to 1939, and was a teller at Bethel Savings Bank 1961 to 1976, as well as helping her husband on the family farm.
She was a member of the West Bethel Union Church, Chapel Aid, Bethel Historical Society, Oxford County Senior Citizens and had been treasurer of the Salvation Army-Bethel Unit since Oct. 1, 1961.
She is survived by three daughters, V. Sally Bradley and her husband, Raymond Jr., of Wakefield, R.I., Martha Farrington and her husband, Phillip, of Maine and Texas, and Dixie-Lea Thayer and her husband, Charles, of Bangor; six grandchildren, Raymond Bradley III of Charlestown, R.I., Richard Bradley of Providence, R.I., Debra Moody of Auburn, Darrin Farrington of Oxford, Lea-Anne Thayer of Brunswick and Laurie-Sue Rodrigues of Marblehead, Mass.; and five great-grandchildren, Raymond IV, Erica, Alex, Loeden and Colette.
She was predeceased by several siblings.
