LEWISTON – An 18-year-old who died after drinking a quart of vodka in a Granite Street, Auburn, apartment in November was the victim of alcohol poisoning, according to an autopsy report.

The death of Adam Beggs was declared the result of “acute ethanol intoxication.” It was ruled accidental, according to a spokeswoman at the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office.

Larando Sweeting, 23, was charged with providing the liquor consumed by Beggs the night he died. Witnesses said Sweeting provided the liquor and then dared Beggs to guzzle it.

The charge against Sweeting was elevated to a felony because a death resulted from his alleged actions.

“The autopsy findings only bolster that charge,” Auburn deputy police Chief Jason Moen said on Thursday.

Sweeting, of 317 Main St., remained at the Androscoggin County Jail on Thursday.

Police said Sweeting also was drinking at the Granite Street home the night Beggs died, which was in violation of conditions of his release from jail after an earlier arrest.

In October, Sweeting was indicted on charges of gross sexual assault and sexual abuse of a minor.

for allegedly having sex with a girl under the age of 14 between March 1, 2006, and February this year.
