AUBURN – A Mexico man captured in mid-leap escaping cops last fall in a widely circulated photo and who has been indicted on criminal charges in three counties was in court again this week.
Norman “Bo” Thompson, 35, of Mexico and Lewiston, pleaded not guilty to three counts Tuesday at Androscoggin County Superior Court. They are:
• unauthorized use of property, a class C felony;
• eluding an officer, a class C felony; and
• operating after suspension, a class E misdemeanor.
A judge set bail for Thompson at $25,000 cash or $50,000 surety.
Thompson faces trial next month on unrelated charges stemming from indictments alleging vehicle thefts and bad checks in September. Those charges include:
• theft;
• violation of condition of release;
• forgery; and
• unauthorized use of property.
In October, Thompson was arrested at his mother’s Mexico home after a 14-hour standoff with police. He also was jailed on four counts, including two felonies, in connection with alleged home and vehicle burglaries as well as vehicle thefts. He remains held at Oxford County Jail.
In December, Thompson appeared in Franklin County Superior Court on a felony theft charge and violation of condition of release, stemming from an alleged theft in August in New Sharon of a 1968 Ford Falcon.
Thompson gained national attention in early October when he jumped from a third-floor apartment balcony in Lewiston in an effort to flee police. Shortly after, he was tackled and held for police by a Sun Journal photographer, who also snapped dramatic photos of his leap.
Thompson’s criminal history in Maine dates back to 1990 when he was sentenced on a misdemeanor assault charge and served probation. Since then, he has been convicted of more than a dozen crimes, several of them felonies.
