FARMINGTON – The Healthy Community Coalition and Franklin Community Health Network invite residents to join them in a campaign to raise awareness about women and heart disease.
In February, partnering with the American Heart Association, Greater Franklin County is wearing red every Friday. Those wishing can wear a red dress, red tie, red sweater or a Red Dress pin to show support.
According to the American Heart Association, women are six -times more likely to die from a heart attack than breast cancer; heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women over the age of 25; more women than men have died of heart disease and one in five females in the United States has some form of heart disease.
Heart attack and stroke risks can be reduced by a healthy lifestyle and living tobacco-free is one of the best things to do. The Maine Tobacco Helpline, 1-800-207-1230, can provide professional tobacco cessation counseling.
