AUBURN – Frances Bedell Wentworth, 91, of 49 Mayfield Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Clover Manor.

She was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Lewiston, the daughter of Edmund R. and Lavina Bedell Wentworth. She graduated from Lewiston High School with the Class of 1934, and then attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

She was employed by Lewiston Gas Co. for nine years, before leaving to join her parents, who owned Paine Incense Co. Inc. After the death of her father in 1947, she and her mother continued to operate the company. Her mother passed away in 1985, at which time she became the president of the corporation and continued the company until 1989, the time of the disastrous fire.

She joined the Auburn United Methodist Church in 1950, and served on various boards, including trustees and finance committee. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Priscilla (Naomi) Circle, as well as a member of First Auburn Senior Citizens, Robin Dow and the Auburn Seniors bowling league.

She had a special interest in art and was a charter member of Androscoggin Valley Art Association and enjoyed studying with various local art instructors, both in oils and water color. Other hobbies included gardening, fishing and all sports. Her summer residence at Bailey Island had been in the family since 1923, and there much of her leisure time was spent.

She is survived by second cousins; and many friends.

She was predeceased by a sister in 1913, who died in Worcester, Mass.
