LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, Feb. 8, will feature a presentation by Andrew Harris about the current state of the arts in L-A and how his L/A Arts organization is working to enrich the community.
British-born, but now a full-time Auburn resident, Harris is the executive director of L/A Arts and artistic director of the Maine Performing Arts Festival. He trained as an actor/educator in London and attended the University of London and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Harris has served on the UK’s National Examination Board and the National Curriculum Council for the Arts. He has worked as an educator and professional stage actor with the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and serves as an affiliate artist at the Portland Stage Company, working with student workshops.
Harris’ recent professional theater work includes appearing on stage at the Public Theatre and the Portland Stage Company, as well as on screen for the History Channel in “Desperate Crossing: the Real Story of the Mayflower.”
The program will be held at noon in the Function Room 170 at USM/L-A. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6.50 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m. Reservations must be made no later than noon Thursday, Feb. 7, by phone at 753-6510 or on-line at usm.maine.edu/lac/seniorcollege. Any late callers will be considered as “at the door.”
