Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering how one would be able to look up death records in Kennebec, Maine for free? Even on the Internet? – No Name, No Town.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots wonders if you’ve considered checking in with the Maine State Archives? You will more than likely be able to obtain photocopies for which there is a 15-cent per copy charge or 30 cents for microfilm copies. You may reach them at Maine State Archives, 84 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333, 287-5790 or via their Web site at www.maine.gov/sos/arc/location.html. The Archives Research Room is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., (except legal holidays), 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. access is limited to records available on microfilm, or original records previously reserved.
Another possibility is checking in with the Kennebec Journal, although Sun Spots is not sure of their research procedure. Consider contacting them at 274 Western Ave., Augusta, ME 04330, 1-800-537-5508.
Dear Sun Spots: I wonder if any readers have “Step 2” video chairs they no longer use?
These are hard plastic, low-to-the-floor rockers. I use them in my middle school classroom to provide comfortable seating for independent reading. I would be happy to pick them up anywhere within the readership area and would be more than grateful on behalf of my students to pay a token amount or accept them as a generous donation. Thank you. I may be reached via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 783-7678. – Susan Weber, Lewiston Middle School, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: Could you help me with this problem.

Dear Sun Spots: Many years ago, there was a product called H-O or HO oats. It was oatmeal found in the grocery store. I am wondering if that is still available any place and what company made it? Is it Kellogg’s or General Mills? Perhaps a reader will remember this. Thank you, Sun Spots, for your availability to the public. You do a great service. – Just Another Reader, No Town.
Answer: It appears this company is no longer in business. Hopefully readers with any history or information on it will be willing to share it with you and other readers.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a new Michigan Rummy game that I’m willing to sell for what it cost me to the person from Jay. Contact Pauline at 783-6225. – No Name, Lewiston.
