YORK (AP) – Investigators say a four-alarm fire and another fire two weeks earlier at the Stage Neck Inn at York Harbor were deliberately set.

No injuries were reported in the Wednesday night blaze in a wing of motel rooms that face the ocean. Firefighters from several southern Maine towns helped battle the flames.

The inn, which has been closed for renovations, was also the scene of a Jan. 17 fire that started in a shed and spread to an adjacent banquet and meeting hall. That fire caused an estimated $400,000 in damage.

Stephen McCausland of the state Public Safety Department said the combined loss from the two fires will run into the millions of dollars, including lost revenue from reservations.

State fire marshal investigators determined that arson was to blame for the two most recent fires but that a fire at the hotel early last year was accidental.
