Stefano Giliati is already one of the best players in the five year history of the Lewiston Maineiacs, and certainly a fan favorite.
In the coming weeks, he might also put his name atop some of the franchise’s marquee records.
Giliati is currently third on the Maineiacs’ all-time scoring list with 169 points. he passed Alexandre Picard for third last week. Next in his sights is Jonathan Paiement, who had 176 points.
There is a chance Giliati could catch Mathieu Aubin’s Lewiston record of 190 points, and Aubin’s mark of 85 goals. To get there, Giliati needs 10 goals and 21 points in the team’s final 18 games this season.
One of a kind
Danick Paquette is one of a kind. Most people who know him already knew that, though.
But this week, Paquette did something no other Maineiac has ever done. Paquette, in one game, earned a hat trick in the traditional sense (three goals) and a Gordie Howe hat trick (a goal, an assist and a fight).
A quick peek through the team’s records since moving to Lewiston shows no other player whaving accomplished that feat.
No hating
Despite what was nearly a goalie fight at the end of Friday’s game, Travis Fullerton, who played in more than 20 games for Lewiston in 2004-05, said afterward that he has no animosity toward Bernier or the organization that gave him his start.
“It’s part of the game,” Fullerton said. “Bernier and I always got along.”
