DURHAM – Personnel from Durham Fire and Rescue had to extricate a Durham woman trapped in her overturned SUV in a water-filled gully off Newell Brook Road Saturday morning.

According to the invesigating officer Deputy Sheriff Randy Williams, Stephanie Lewis, 21, of 486 Stackpole Road, was driving in an easterly direction on Newell Brook road when her SUV skidded out of control in slush into a gully, rolled over and landed upside down in water. Wet and complaining of leg pain, she was transported to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick, Deputy Williams said.

Her 2004 Mercury Mountaineer was demolished in the 7:57 a.m. crash.
