MEXICO – Joseph F. Dubois, 82, of Fourth Street, Mexico, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at his residence on Fourth Street in Mexico.
He was born in Rumford, on Sept. 15, 1925, a son of Frederick and Phoebe (Desroche) Dubois, and had attended Rumford schools.
Joe served during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a metalsmith 3rd Class, with First Beach Battalion from 1942 to 1946, including overseas in the Asiatic Pacific and European African-Middle Eastern area.
He worked at Oxford Paper Co. and Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for over 27 years, he also had owned and operated Dubois TV Service and Repair for over 37 years and operated Dubois Livery and Ambulance service for many years, and worked as an attendant at Irving Gas Station in Mexico, for over 10 years when he retired in 2001.
He was a member of Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW, member Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, member LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, member Association National Des Croix DeGuerre, Des T.O.E. Et De La Valeur Militaire and was a communicant of St. Theresa Church.
He was married in Mexico, on June 21, 1948, to the former Elaine E. Barrett, who died in Rumford, on May 6, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny Sicotte and husband Timothy, of Rumford; a son, Joseph F. Dubois Jr. and wife, Anna, of Springville, Ala.; a brother, Oscar “Peanuts” Dubois of Melrose, Mass.; a sister, Joan MacConaghy and husband, Robert, of Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Sandra MacDonald of Utah, Brian and Timothy Sicotte Jr. and wife, Pam, of Rumford and Mark Henry and wife, Beth, of Roxbury; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Derek Sicotte of Rumford, Thomas Henry of North Carolina, Robert Henry of Roxbury, Ashley MacDonald of Utah, Kirsten and Nicole MacDonald of Utah, Kyle, Jeff, and Jessica Friday of North Carolina and Jake, Kristen and Megan Henry of Roxbury; sisters-in-law, Betty Barrett of Mexico and Mae Dubois of West Paris; and many nieces and nephews.
