FARMINGTON – A Greene man pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated criminal mischief that destroyed two Cessna 172 planes last June at Carrabassett Valley Airport.

Travis Therrien, 26, entered the plea Monday in Franklin County Superior Court.

The court will need to decide how much of the $86,000 in uninsured damage Therrien will have to pay in restitution, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said. Only one of the planes was insured, he said.

Therrien is scheduled to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 29, in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.

Andrews said if the case went to trial, the court would have heard that Therrien, who was working in construction in the area, tampered with a Cessna airplane and started it at full-throttle and it rolled into another plane at the airport.

Police estimated in June that more than $70,000 in damage was done to the planes, owned by Peter McKendry and Thomas Carey, both of Carrabassett Valley, and to the hangar.

Both owners requested to be present during the sentencing hearing.

The proposed sentencing agreement between Therrien and his attorney, Josh Robbins, and the state is that Therrien serve one year of a three-year sentence with the Maine Department of Corrections and two years probation, Andrews said.

The court will decide whether to accept the agreement or not during the sentencing hearing.

While out on bail, Therrien is prohibited from going near the airport.
