AUGUSTA – Evelyn W. Walker, 83, a resident of Winthrop Center Road, Winthrop, died Monday, Feb. 4, at Maine General Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Waldoboro, the daughter of the late Addison K. and Ethel I. (Mank) Winslow. She attended the Waldoboro schools and moved to the Winthrop area in 1948. Her first husband was Leslie J. Perry; he passed away in 1968.
In 1971, in Winthrop, she married Nelson W. Walker from Monmouth; he passed away in 1979. She was a member of Alfred W. Maxwell Post 40 in Winthrop and a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary in Winthrop.
In the 1940s, she had been employed at the Echo House and Simmons Rest Home, boarding homes in Winthrop that her aunt owned, where you could find her doing everything from cooking to cleaning. She also worked at the John E. English Co. in Morrisville, Pa.; maker of model trains for adults, she painted the numbers on the freight cars.
She was also a homemaker. She traveled to several states with her first husband, who was employed as an electrician on construction jobs. After the death of her second husband, she and her son went to Florida, for several winters and also spent a winter in Texas.
She enjoyed doing crafts, such as knitting, crocheting, tole painting, reading, making cut and pierced lamp shades, gardening and fishing.
She is survived by her son, Robert L. Winslow of Winthrop; stepchildren, Sue Webster and her husband, Ralph, of Wales, Bonnie Johnson and her husband, Ronnie, of Greene, Pam Frank and her husband, Royal, of Poland and Alan Walker and his wife, Claire, of Monmouth; grandchildren, Chip Webster and his wife, Penny and Stephanie Webster, all of Wales, Tom Johnson and his wife, April and Tracy Lagueux and her husband, Norm, all of Greene, Eric Walker and his wife, Michelle, of Sidney and Analisa Gallant and her husband, Brian, of West Gardiner and Casey Blake and her fiancé, Ryan Violette, of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Colby Webster of Wales, Jaylynn Johnson of Lewiston, Savannah Johnson of Greene and Spencer and Landon Gallant of West Gardiner; sisters-in-law, Patricia Winslow of Nobleboro, Helen Weston and Hazel Wilbur, both of Wilton; daughter-in-law, Patricia Davis and her husband, David, of North Monmouth; cousins, Madelyn Benner of Bristol and Shirley Ross of Waldoboro; and nephews, Rodney Winslow of Portland and David LaBelle of Kingfield.
She was predeceased by her parents; her two husbands; and her brother, Leon Winslow who passed away in 1991.
