Dear Sun Spots: Recently, Sister Gilberte Boisvert wrote requesting canceled stamps to help buy food and clothing for a Cameroon African village.
She is an elderly nun who has been confined to her room by various medical problems. This week her recovery was further delayed by acute bronchitis.
Sun Spots readers who wish to cheer her up may send notes, cards and/or stamps (leaving a half-inch border around the stamp) may send them to Sister Gilberte Boisvert, 209 Lawrence St., Ste. Claire, Methuen, MA 01844-3884.
Collectors might also consider sending the double ones or the two stamp mint too.
She says the stamps keep her out of mischief! Thank you. – No Name, Auburn.

Sun Spots has also been collecting stamps for her and has quite a few international stamps from over the Christmas holidays. Wishing sister a speedy recovery and please be sure to update the column and readers on how she is doing.

Dear Sun Spots: Do you know that month of the year the U.S. Mint will release the Presidential $1 Coins? I understand there will be four per year. Is this correct? Thank you. – No Name, Carrabasset Valley.
Answer: According to the U.S. Mint’s Web site, www.usmint.gov, the circulating coins are being issued in the order each of the nation’s presidents served. Four Presidential $1 Coins are being released per year, with Presidents Monroe, Adams, Jackson and Van Buren being honored in 2008. Each coin has a common reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. These coins feature larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting or issuance, “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust” and the mint mark. Although the size, weight and metal composition of the new Presidential $1 Coins are identical to that of the Sacagawea gold dollar coin, there are several unique features that make this coin distinctive.
In 2007, coins for George Washington (1789-1797), John Adams (1797-1801), Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) and James Madison (1809-1817) were released.
The 2008 coins will be James Monroe (1817-1825) release set for Feb. 14; John Quincy Adams (1825-1829) release date May 15; Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) release date Aug. 14; and Martin Van Buren (1837-1841) released on Nov 13.
The 2009 releases will include: William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk, Zachary Taylor.
2010: Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln.
2011 are: Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes and James A. Garfield.
2012: Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison and Grover Cleveland.
2013: William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson.
2014: Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin D. Roosevelt.
2015: Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson.
2016: Richard M. Nixon and Gerald Ford.
