FARMINGTON – A Eustis woman pleaded guilty Monday to setting fire to a mobile home she had been renting last April. The blaze destroyed the home on Route 27 in Eustis that Donna A. Reid, 45, was renting from its owner, Kandi Henderson of Wyman Township.

Justice Michaela Murphy ordered Reid to undergo a forensic evaluation prior to sentencing, which is expected this spring.

Reid, 45, changed her previous plea of not guilty to the arson charge.

A plea agreement was reached in the case between Reid, her attorney, Linda Sparks, and state prosecutors. It limits the time she would serve in prison to two years of a possible six-year sentence. Her attorney could ask for a lesser amount of time to be served, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said. He also expects to ask the court to order restitution. The insurance payout in the case was $10,160, he added.

An affidavit filed by state fire investigators at the time of the arson stated that Reid told investigators she had been drinking beer and was angry about life before she started the fire and watched the mobile home burn before she walked to her mother’s house.

Reid also pleaded guilty to two other charges: a domestic assault on her mother in November and violation of condition of release stemming from the arson charge.

In November, a family member called police to report that Reid had assaulted her twice, according to a police affidavit filed with the court. Police arrived and found Reid to be under the influence, a violation of a condition of her release. She had a .17 blood alcohol level, a state prosecutor said last year.

A charge of unlawful possession of a scheduled drug was dismissed by the state.

When Murphy asked about bail prior to sentencing, Andrews said that the current bail seemed to working. One of the bail conditions was that Reid have no contact with her mother.

Sparks said Reid wanted to go home to help her mother, who is taking care of her ailing husband.

Sparks said she had spoken with Reid’s mother, who said that as long as Reid was not drinking, she wanted her to come home and help her.

Reid is on a waiting list for the Tri-County Mental Health Substance Abuse Program, Sparks told the judge.

Murphy granted Reid’s request to go to her mother’s home but said she had to attend three Alcoholic Anonymous meetings per week until she got into the substance abuse program.

Reid asked the judge what to do if she didn’t have a ride.

Murphy told her it was her responsibility to get one.
