WILTON – The Wilton Fire Department will receive $199,500 from the Department of Homeland Security to buy a vehicle.

Neither Town Manager Peter Nielsen nor the fire department had received official notice Wednesday afternoon but found the announcement from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins to be good news.

“We’re pleased to be on the receiving end,” he said. The department had applied for funding to assist in the purchase of a tanker truck, he added.

Collins, a ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, stated that Wilton and the Penobscot Nation Fire Department would receive a total of $222,657. The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
